SHARK RESEARCH

Beyond The Reef has tagged over 100 juvenile Lemon Sharks as well as 7 other species of sharks including Tiger, Great Hammerhead, Blacknose, Caribbean Reef, and Nurse using various tagging methods.

Our hope is to collect baseline data on these important species in order to ensure their protection within BVI waters.  This also comes with collaborating with the BVI government, fishermen and ensuring local community outreach and education on the importance of sharks to our waters.

Tagging Juvenile Lemon Sharks

In 2022 we began a tagging and research program in conjunction with PI Bryan Legare and the Center For Coastal Studies that has focused on tagging juvenile sharks within the British Virgin Islands.  Watch below for more info!
